Sip Wine & Savor Cuisine in Catalan

Enjoy expertly guided wine & food tours as you travel through the picturesque Catalan countryside & walk the medieval city of Girona.

About Your Trip

There are many sides to Spain, and you’ll see — and taste! — some of the best on this adults-only Platinum DreamTrip to Catalonia. Leaving Girona behind for a day, head northeast to magnificent Cap de Creus Natural Park known for its rugged coastline of rock outcroppings eroded by the wind. Continue to the coastal village of Cadaques where you’ll encounter a tranquil waterfront and bright white buildings. Then, it’s off to experience something truly memorable with a visit to the massive St. Pere de Rodes. As you approach this former monastery set atop a mountain overlooking the sea, you’ll marvel at its Romanesque architecture and terraced buildings, including a church, bell tower and cloisters. The tour ends with a lively wine tasting at a local shop before you’re whisked back to the hotel in Girona.

Ready for more adventure? Your second outing — a special, half-day guided food tour — lets you indulge your senses with tastes of Catalan and Spanish cuisine while you tour the old town of Girona. Some of old town’s structures, such as the fortress walls, date back to the Roman Empire. Notable attractions in the area include the Jewish Quarter — established in 1452 and one the best-preserved quarters in Europe — and the hillside Girona Cathedral, which took 700 years to build!

What we love:
• The landscape at Cap de Creus Natural Park inspired artwork by Salvador Dali, a world-renowned surrealist artist from Figueres.
• If you feel like you’re stepping into a scene from “Game of Thrones,” you’re probably right. Several Girona sites — such as cathedrals, alleyways, staircases and plazas — were filming locations for this popular TV series.
• El Celler de Can Roca, only a 7-minute drive from your hotel, is No. 2 on "The World’s 50 Best Restaurants" list by UK's William Reed Business Media.

Destination

Catalonia has long been a region in flux, starting with Roman possession in the first century, to becoming part of Spain in the 15th century to its present-day autonomy. Such a rich, diverse and complex history has naturally resulted in unique traditions. Some examples include the castell, or human tower, listed as one of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritages, the abundance of festivals held throughout the year and the celebration of St. George.

Girona, in northern Catalonia, dates back 2,000 years, and has itself been influenced by many cultural groups over the centuries. There, the Romans built fortress walls, the Jewish community firmly established itself in the 12th century, Christians took 500 years to finish erecting the Church of St. Felix and Muslims established a mosque in 713 A.D. from the structure known in modern times as Girona Cathedral.
